“American Born Chinese” by Gene Yang is a powerful graphic novel that interweaves the stories of three seemingly unrelated characters:
- Jin Wang – A Chinese-American student who moves to a new neighborhood and faces isolation as the only Chinese-American student in his new school.
- Monkey King – A legendary figure from Chinese folklore.
- Chin-Kee – A character who embodies negative Chinese stereotypes, causing trouble during his annual visits to his cousin Danny.
Their lives and narratives eventually converge in an unexpected twist, forming an action-packed modern fable. “American Born Chinese” is a thrilling and thought-provoking work, culminating in a remarkable climax.
