Ikebana Class at the Museum

The Maridon Museum hosted an Ikebana workshop this summer at the museum. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging, and includes multiple styles. This class focused on the Sogetsu Ikebana style of Japanese floral design. Sogetsu school of Ikebana was founded in 1927 by artist Sofu Teshigahara, who expanded traditional Ikebana beyond traditional style to be created “anytime, anywhere, by anyone.” The presenter, Reiko Nakajima of Sogetsu Pittsburgh, demonstrated the foundational techniques of this particular style using select branches and fresh flowers. The best part is the participants were able to take their lovely creations home to enjoy The Maridon would like to thank the many participants and Sogetsu Pittsburgh for this enjoyable class.

Not only did Reiko Nakajima do a marvelous presentation, her group put together multiple Ikebana designs throughout the museum in advance of the class so visitors could enjoy and learn about the different styles of Ikebana.
