Malabar Couple

Meissen Porcelain

We are a couple representing Malabar, India, although we originated in Meissen, Germany. As you can see from our instruments, we are both musically inclined and have been entertaining since round1840. We were modeled by Friedrich Elias Meyer, a German sculptor (1723-1785).

Mary Hulton Phillips, founder of The Maridon Museum, found a home for us in 1997. We resided with Mrs. Phillips until 2004, when she opened the museum and made a place for us in the Foreign Lands Section of The Meissen Gallery.
