He is the proprietor of Sukiyabashi Jiro\, a 10-seat\, sushi-only restaurant inauspiciously located in a Tokyo subway station. Despite its humble appearances\, it is the first restaurant of its kind to be awarded a prestigious three-star Michelin Guide rating\, and sushi lovers from around the globe make repeated pilgrimages\, calling months in advance and shelling out top dollar for a coveted seat at Jiro’s sushi bar. \nJUAN LIKE RICE & CHICKEN\nRATED TV14\, 21 MINUTES\nIf imitation is the sincerest form of flattery\, “Juan Likes Rice and Chicken” (2016) is a somewhat off-the-mark parody but it addresses similar themes. The story is often told through subtitles in Juan’s native language to mystify and authenticate the story even further. DESCRIPTION:Join us for film and discussion with our special presenter\, Charles “Bud” Glendenning. We will view and compare a Japanese-made film to the American version over two days. \n2nd Film: Last Man Standing\nLast Man Standing is an American remake of Yojimbo. John Smith is an amoral gunslinger in the days of Prohibition. On the lam from his latest (unspecified) exploits\, he happens upon the town of Jericho\, Texas. Actually\, calling Jericho a town would be too generous–it has become more like a ghost town\, since two warring gangs have ‘driven off all the decent folk.’ Smith sees this as an opportunity to play both sides off against each other\, earning himself a nice piece of change as a hired gun.
